Time for voters’ suppression

October 28, 2008

Well it has begun.  Of course we know the main target of voters suppression is Black Americans and young Americans.

It was reported in Philadelphia today that there is a flier being circulated in the heavily Black populated area that discourage Black people from voting.

Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Everett Gillison, who learned of the flier last week, said that the message is completely false.

“The only thing that police officers are going to do that we’ll be encouraging that day is that they’ll be exercising their own individual right to vote,” Gillison said.

He plans to put up statements on the city and police Web sites to let citizens know that the handouts are false. He said that he also will record a public-service announcement for broadcast.

Gillison referred the matter to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the district attorney.

In Richmond, Virginia its being reported that another flier is making the rounds that tells the republicans to vote on Tuesday, November 4th, and for democrats to vote on Wednesday, November 5th.  The deceptiveness of the flier below is that it looks some what official.  However, as we all know, there is only one date to vote on, November 4th.

It was also reported in Miami, Florida that someone was stealing absentee ballots:

Three Hialeah voters say they had an unusual visitor at their homes last week: a man who called himself Juan, offering to help them fill out their absentee ballots and deliver them to the elections office.

The voters, all supporters of Democratic congressional candidate Raul Martinez, said they gave their ballots to the man after he told them he worked for Martinez. But the Martinez campaign said he doesn’t work for them.

Juan ”told me not to worry, that they normally collected all the ballots and waited until they had a stack big enough to hand-deliver to the elections department,” said voter Jesus Hernandez, 73. ‘He said, `Don’t worry. This is not going to pass through the mail to get lost.’ ”

Hernandez said he worries his ballot was stolen or destroyed. He and two other voters told The Miami Herald that the man was dispatched by a woman caller who also said she worked for Martinez. But the phone number cited by the voters traces back to a consultant working for Martinez’s rival, Republican congressman Lincoln Diaz-Balart.

These tactics are hardly new.  We have seen them take place before in both the year 2000 and 2004.  The republicans have already tried suppressing voters by having names purged from the database.  The republicans took on Ohio and  Wisconsin and lost.  The GOP is now trying to make voters fraud an issue just so they can contest the election should Obama and the democrats currently slated to win their districts senate seats.

I believe that the GOP is out of ideas, out of time, out of strategies and now it’s time to lie and steal.

Republicans have lost most of their legal challenges claiming states aren’t adequately protecting against voter fraud. But legal experts worry that the steady barrage of legal attacks in battleground states is part of a broader effort to lay the groundwork for undermining the legitimacy of the outcome of the presidential election. That could further fuel the anger of the Republican base against the Democratic candidate — and possibly the next president.

“If it’s close, and if, in the grand scheme of things, Ohio would make a difference in the Electoral College or the finally tally, all these aspersions could come into play in challenging those results,” said Davis, the Ohio ACLU attorney. Either party could bring a legal challenge questioning the validity of provisional or absentee ballots.

Enough said.

  1. Shameless is what they are… simply shameless.

  2. During my reading today this is a very important issue now that all polls are showing Obama in the lead in Ohio and Floriday & probably more to come. The republicans want so bad to throw this election by fraudulant means. Deperate fools. Bush accually tried to intervene here in Ohio. We must continue to expose these idiots for what they are.

  3. Vaughn, they are shameless as well as sick. Ggita32 ,you know we have to keep the fight up to the very end. Thanks to people like you and Vaughn we are winning.

Guess what? I did not get one right wing nut today. Well, sort of kinda of. It’s a good day when I do not get a Bible literal translator or racist. I hope they have finally realized I am utterly hopeless.
